Mexican Onyx is a variety of calcium carbonate (calcite) that formed as travertine or tufa with impurities, which gives it its beautiful banding and colors. Mexican Onyx is also known as Onyx Marble or Egyptian Alabaster and is classified as marble as it has the same mineral content.
