Collection: Resin Incense
Resin Incense is tacky tree sap that is harvested from varieties of trees and shrubs. It has been used for thousands of years as incense in rituals of all faiths and beliefs. When burned, resin incense releases a wonderful scent that helps cleanse the energies of your space, improve your mood, and keep insects away.
Resins can come in drops, like Frankincense, or chunks like Myrrh and Benzoin. We receive many in 2-pound chunks that need to be broken down, so you may receive a variety of sized chunks and some powdered resin in the package. It is sustainably harvested through tapping the trees, and the tacky sap oozes out, clinging to the bark. So bits of bark and other tree debris may harden into it. We do our best to sift through the bits of wood and bark that may be mixed in when we receive it, but there will still be some. Some resins, like Myrrh, will have a bit more bark on the resin, as it seems to stick to it like, well, resin, lol.
Resin incense can be burned on a charcoal tab or mixed in with other woods and herbs for burning. Please be sure to use a heat-resistant burner! Do not use wood!!! Make sure to use a potholder, trivet, marble slab, glass cutting board, whatever, just something to set the burner on. It gets HOT and will burn whatever you set it on if you do not (#experience). It burns best when it is a small piece or in powdered form. Most people use a pestle and mortar to grind it down. A hammer is just as effective, however, that's much, much messier, and could cause injury if you are not careful. (Don't use a hammer. At least don't go full-on hammer smashing if you do. Do it gently and have the resin in a bag or something. Wear protective eyewear. Resin makes the eye sting very badly and could cause severe injury. #experience).
